How You Got Here

MY2abouttemplate

I am thrilled that everyone who uses my creations, knows they are getting an authentic piece made with love and intention.

Before I created Pottery From The Soul, I had had a life changing incident and could no longer continue my profession of trimming horses feet, and as a result, I had lost my sense of identity and purpose.

Then one day I went to bed with the thought that I would like to start pottery, bought a wheel the next morning and a kiln just a few weeks later, and totally immersed myself into working with clay. I also decided to do my own glazes to bring out the beauty I saw in nature, the desert in particular. Mostly though, I put my intention, love and prayers in each piece as the wheel spins for the health of the person using or admiring that particular piece.

I was concerned that I would not be able to create the pieces I saw in my imagination.

But then I practiced and decided that it was my expression of beauty that people felt drawn to and that they feel inspired when they hold one of my pieces or see them.

I decided I would set out to create the most inspiring pieces of beauty in the form of functional ware and decorative pieces. My intention was that beauty-loving people would sit in front of their desk or table and find joy and inspiration looking at my art.

It turns out, the road was more difficult than I imagined.

I definitely had my setbacks when pieces broke in the beginning, when I had no guidance or when I had to figure out the high altitude firing process with certain glazes that caused my art to stick to the kiln shelf because the kiln got too hot.

Once I make up my mind to do something though, I do not give up, I start to experiment. I now see the process of alchemy rather than pure chemistry, of transforming something into art and beauty and learning from the observations and experiences I made. My mission is really about energy and transformation, which reflect my honoring of Mother Earth in the form of clay, fire and all the elements. This process of transformation happens from the moment I center the clay on the wheel to when I send the piece off to its new owner.

I did not know if I would ever recover fully from my accident, and I was worried if I would become fully functional again. But in looking back, I now realize that my traumatic life experience lead to a major life change, and I am now very happy about it. It is amazing where this journey of life can take u!!

Through it all, I released my first products and the response has been amazing and unexpectedly encouraging.
